Jumping spiders usually molt 6 to 9 times on their journey to adulthood (with a few keen types stretching it to 12). The exact number depends on species, diet, and how comfortable their setup is. Once they reach adulthood, the molting phase is officially over.

As youngsters, spiderlings molt every few weeks, shedding skins with impressive efficiency. As they get bigger, older, and a bit more settled, the gaps between molts stretch out to months, less “rapid growth,” more “I’ll get round to it when I’m ready.

Water is simple. They don’t drink from bowls; they sip tiny droplets. A light daily mist on the side of the enclosure is more than enough. Just remember their lungs are underneath, so always use a fine mist.

A good rule of thumb is to check the abdomen. If it looks nice and plump, there’s no rush to feed. Simply give it a few days and check again rather than feeding just for the sake of it.

You’ll be keen to bond with your Spider, but it’s best to give them 24 hours to settle, eat, and start exploring before handling. Baby spiders have a strong flight instinct and will happily go for the “hop, skip, and gone” approach if startled, unlike calmer adults.

When unpacking, keep it controlled: work at a table with the enclosure open and a catching cup ready. This reduces escape risk and keeps the process smooth and stress-free.
